A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia is punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
The 19-year-old woman -- whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms -- was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape," the Arab News reported.
But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia's Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.
This is not an indictment of Islam -- these pukes are "Muslim" like the Ku Klux Klan are "Christian", and this is a conflict between economic and social classes as well -- but perhaps the civilized world could figure out a way to repudiate these creeps, without of course compromising our access to the precioussss.
When it comes to finding reasons to conserve, and to develop alternate sources of energy, there are moral imperatives other than salvaging the environment. Disempowering these closet-case scumbags ranks pretty high as well.

Thanks, J, about your comment over at TBogg.
I have a slight but distinct tendency to stay in the fight until someone admits they fucked up.
Not this time. I'm trying to become a better man.
Your work inspires me, and I think your blog kicks major ass. Good luck in all you do. It isn't hard to spot a smart, good dude when you have read enough of what they have written.

Wow, thanks John. I appreciate the kind words.
That's an interesting dust-up thread at TBogg, and it has been a long, long time since I've gotten in one of those. I used to have the same instinct as you mention, to try to get the other guy to say "uncle". They never do. It took me a few years to figure that out.
So failing that, it's still occasionally fun to poke goofballs like Collins and watch them spin. The funny thing is, I don't even bother with inferring that he might be a misogynist or whatever. I have no idea, nor do I care particularly. He's an idiot, is all.
It's just hilarious to watch him trip over basic points, and be so ridiculously obtuse on fundamental issues of common decency. He's basically done about 200 rubber-glue comments in a 400-comment thread, all boiling down to "I know you guys are, but what am I?".
Twenty-three years, and he's still drunk-googling exes, and worse yet, writing posts about it. Pretty sad.
