Cuttin' Rummy

Funny how you only hear this shit after they no longer hold positions of responsibility:

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told President Bush before he resigned that the administration's strategy in Iraq was not working and he proposed changes, including possible troop reductions, The New York Times reported Saturday.

"In my view it is time for a major adjustment. Clearly, what U.S. forces are currently doing in Iraq is not working well enough or fast enough," Rumsfeld said in the classified memo, dated November 6. The Times posted a copy of the memo along with an article about it on its Web site.

Is this supposed to be somehow exculpatory, that the day before Bush was forced to shitcan Rumsfeld, that Rummy finally got around to formally expressing some level of difference of opinion on policy?

Just give him his Medal O' Freedom and be done with it already. He can go sit the corner of shame for all eternity with Slam Dunk Tenet and Colin Powell. Their reputations will only be rehabilitated in the self-selecting legions of idiots who squint just hard enough to grant themselves the affirmation they so desperately need. The rest of us recognize it for the self-immolation it actually is, and will never allow any of them back on to the collective field of serious, knowledgeable discourse.

To paraphrase Otter in Animal House, we fucked up, we trusted you. And as a village idiot once said about that, fool me once, shame on you; fool me -- can't get fooled again.
