Win Or Lose

Regardless of the outcome of tomorrow's debauched electoral process, festooned as it has been with non sequiturs and racist winks, I think the risk of the flight forward of desperation should not be misunderestimated. I think we need to look seriously and soberly at the balance sheet thus far, and project accordingly. I don't see how it's possible to do so and still come up Republican.

If we are honest with ourselves, we at least strive to see things for what they are, instead of what we wish they were. So when we see ignorant assholes squinting, like they see something the rest of us don't, we have to step up and say so. The truths may be self-evident to people who read and reason and pay attention, but those are not requirements to vote; indeed, the naked appeals to rank emotionalism cancel out the considered opinion anymore.

So when some dumbass cocksucker actually has the fucking gall to repeat what he heard at the last Bush rally, and ask you "what's your plan", make sure to ask him right back what his plan is, what his party leader's plan is. Because right now it's shit, and a month from now, it'll just be stale shit. And what's lost in all this is the sotto voce iteration by Bush that Social Security is still targeted for vivisection by financial weasel. That has to be resolved as well.

But the more immediate concerns are that, even with a Democratic landslide, Bush and Cheney may very well decide that real men really do want to go to Tehran, that we need to expand a failed, incompetent war, in order to whip up failed, incompetent partisan hacks.

So tomorrow may indeed herald a new day, but in the end, it's just a beginning, rather than an end.
